Prezi-dents on Prezi
No matter how hard you might try to gussy up your Powerpoint presentations with non-linear tricks, you are just still pushing slides around. Prezi.com offers an interactive alternative to typical slide transitions that quickly become rote after a few slides on Microsofts classic presentation software.
Prezi is a free (there is a pay level, but the "teacher/Student" level gives you all the tools you will need and it's free) web-based software package that transforms the way you build and view presentations. Prezi allows you to edit a single canvas of information and then create a path for the information to viewed. Transitions are smooth and fluid as if someone from Hollywood got a hold of your information and made a movie trailer for it. The work space at Prezi.com where you create your presentation is very easy to use and has many tools to make your Prezi pop. Along with adding Youtube videos directly into your Prezi, this is a great way to share information.
The Prezi I created above took about five hours (with research included), but it sure does beat the forty-four slides I would have to make in Powerpoint and it looks a lot better. Rotation is one of the coolest tools in Prezi, but if it is used to much you could make those watching your presentation feel like they are on a roller coaster.
Prezi.com could be a much more creative way to ask students to present information beyond the standard powerpoint. You can embed your prezi into any blog or website, so using them in the classroom or for students that are absent from class to get notes is a snap, no membership or external web addresses for the students to have to remember.
See what you can do with Prezi.com.
